June 21, 2018 - Rafting the Grand Canyon Day Five

The usual spectacular view in the morning from the campsite.

Lynnette is ready to go!

The set up to her right is where we wash our own dishes.  There are four tubs of water, three of them hot.  After the fourth tub, the plates, silverware, etc. are nice and clean.

The view around the campsite.

Lynnette hanging out in our "suite" right next to the river.

I called this the "ledge" campsite.  There was very little sand at this particular campsite area.  Mostly it was a series of rock ledges.  Our group was on a ledge literally next to the water.

Here, Steve demonstrates the use of a cot.

Stan has some sort of problem with his breakfast.

Lynnette all geared up and ready to hit the river.

The boats are loaded and ready to go.

Cruising down the river.

We stopped at this rock where the daredevil types could jump into the river.

Nice form!

Later we stopped at a Falls.  But there was also a hike to the top of the sub-rim.  I went about half way until ledges were getting too narrow for me.  You can see people on the trail above in the center top.

Looking down on the river.

Close-up.  This is a popular stop on the river because of the Deer Creek Falls.

And you can see why.  Clearly, the best falls of the week.

We pulled over to this little sandbar for lunch.

All they need for lunch is the little folding table, and some shade.

Deluxe seating arrangements on the boat.

Lynnette aftter a good soaking in the Bath Tub.

Approaching more white water!

Lynnette gets soaked again.

The lead boat enters the rapids.

Hiking up a narrow slot canyon.

We had to turn back because a rattlessnake was blocking the way!

It got really hot this afternoon.  The wind from the boat's motion hitting my bare forearms felt like a blast furnace!  We welcomed getting sprayed going through the occasional rapids; it cooled us down.

Another short hike.  Lynnette took this one -- the ledges were a little too narrow for me.

That's a big rock.
